Pass the Ammo- The Shirt

“Fight the good fight of faith”

1 Timothy 6:12

“Pass the Ammo” is a true story series of unnamed (but not unknown) soldiers for Christ who stepped out of their comfort zone to obey the Holy Spirit’s call. To stay in the fight, we’ll need all the extra rounds we can get. So, praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Intent to Offend

On a long awaited day off, the last thing on my mind is what to wear. If I’m just going to hang out around family- the first pair of blue jeans, the first shirt in the top of my dresser drawer- that will do just fine.

But on this day, this Christian soldier did just the opposite. He wore his Christianity on his shirt sleeve you might say.

“For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad withย zealย as aย cloke.” [A prophecy of Jesus Christ]

Isaiah 59:17

Today, he would become more than just another guy. He was a son. He was a husband. He was a father. He was a believer. He knew who would cross his path this day. He knew that they would be his friends if he would only keep quiet about his faith. They would tolerate him if he would just leave them alone in their sin. (Isn’t that the truce the world always proposes- toleration for peace? You leave me alone, and I’ll leave you alone.) As he straightens his chosen tunic, sporting a sharp Scripture, he knew that was NOT going to happen.

This particular piece of clothing was going to be offensive. It was going to make things awkward. It was going to make conversations uncomfortable. A shirt with a Bible verse was not going to ‘fit in.’ And that’s exactly why he put it on. Because that’s what a Christian would do.

It was not an accident. It wasn’t an inconsequential chance. It was one man, choosing to display what he believed. There was no place he would go that day, no party he would attend, no business he would walk into where would be any doubt that THIS man was a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

How often do you prepare for your day KNOWING Christ is in you heart, but not SHOWING that to a lost and erring world? “But putย ye on the Lord Jesusย Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:14) Why not choose your wardrobe as a warrior?

“…And having done all, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:13b
