No “AI” On The Horizon

“For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant. “

Daniel 11:30

Conceit beyond imagination! You have believed that you need help thinking, so you have been given a tool by the hopelessly immoral, and the spiritually ignorant. Many have accepted the ignorance of the godless as the maximum level of intelligence to which they can rise.

“Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity!”

So said my Bible institute teacher around 2006. His sense of humor never failed to drive home the obvious truths we students would otherwise miss. Yet how long ago does 2006 seem technologically.

In my lifetime, the internet has gone from being a joke to being the only thing taken seriously. Shopping online used to be a risk and a hassle, now we feel inconvenienced if we have to wait on a cashier at a store. A Google search used to be frowned upon for a research paper, now it is literally the only research some college graduates have ever done. You used to tell a computer what to do. Now, you ask it what you should do.

Yes, 2006 seems a lifetime ago.

And for the people so blessed with natural stupidity? They write code for a living. They’re not stupid in the intellectual sense. They are stupid in the spiritual sense. That’s a stupid no dog has ever been accused of. (Apologies to any dumb dog who may be reading this.)

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…”

Psalm 14:1

Did I mention they write code for a living? That means they program the devices you use. What does that mean for you? It means that they are the voice of the virtual assistant. They tell the search engine where to find its answers. They cannot raise a respectful child, discern truth from error, or teach a dog a trick; but they are the genie in the lamp of every ‘chatbot’ that has been recently unleashed. Spiritually ignorant people now have ‘artificial intelligence’ at their disposal.

“And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.”

Daniel 11:31

The Antichrist’s scheme will begin with “intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.” (Daniel 11:30) Notice the intelligence is from a group, like Psalm 1:1 and Proverbs 1:10 warn about. See also that it is a counter-attack from being resisted. Also, it is fueled by unjustified anger– unrighteous indignation- as warned by Proverbs 22:24. Finally, this intelligence rallies an army to war against Israel.

Since this is the only mention of “intelligence” in a King James Bible, we are convinced that it is a Bible negative that the world will try to spin positive every time. So it has been for the last century.

  • Intelligence Quotient (IQ) Tests
  • The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)
  • Intelligence Committees
  • Intelligencia (a fancy word that means a fellowship of ‘smarter-than-thous’, educated people)
  • Intellectualism
  • and, lately, Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Ā While many have opinions, the plain truth is that computing (the act of using a computer) has become a game. Every game has players, rules and referees. If you’re like the average smartphone/tablet user, you are just a player of someone else’s game. They make the rules, and they blow the whistle. You can believe you are really winning all you want; but the “intelligence” can tell you whatever you need to hear to keep you coming back for more “intelligence.”

Andrew Torba, founder of a large tech company and social media platform, doesn’t think Christians have anything to fear from AI. He explains how he thinks the term ā€˜artificial intelligenceā€™ is misleading.

“Large Language Models (LLMs), the core technology behind AI, possess no inherent intelligence. They are simply binary code executing programmed tasks. A more accurate description of this technology is ā€˜Augmented Intelligenceā€™.”

Wonderful! It’s not like the Bible has anything negative to say about augmentation… does it?

His point on the programming is sound- there is nothing new under the sun- but I’ll stick to what God said about it to determine how I feel about it… and whether or not to use it.

“And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

Daniel 11:32

As I research for Spiritual Reload, I notice more and more ‘content’ being pushed that is neither genuine, nor inspirational; it is lifeless. It is merely filler for the sake of filler. “Words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.” (2 Timothy 2:14) It is merely ‘account activity’ to generate interest in an ‘influencer’s feed’. (WHAT?!) Small and large churches alike are succumbing to the lie that ‘connecting’ will be easier with AI. (Whatever that means!) Instead of, “Buy the truth, and sell it not,” (Proverb 23:23) we ‘market’ God’s words like a Temu trinket. How sad.

So, you may have guessed where this is going: we are posting a “no artificial intelligence” sign on the door. Not tabbed suggestions to end a run-on sentence, not substitutions for clearer wording, not even spellcheck. Nope. If you see it here, as imperfect and jagged as it can be, thank the Lord and pray for me. I often come to the desk needing the Reloads I write for you. And if God doesn’t send ’em, they just don’t come.
