Looking Around

“Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”

John 4:35
This is a reminisce of the oppression faced in early 2020 and the following months. I waited to publish it until I came into my own personal direction and resolve.

False Assumption

I refuse to be surprised at the depravity of man. Does that shock you? It shouldn’t.

You can’t count on men to be anything more than…well, sinful men. Yet Christians-so-called become offended that souls without Christ are not appreciating or defending their ‘culture’ or ‘way of life’. That is like saying that Emperor Hirohito of Japan should have appreciated our navy docked at Pearl Harbor in 1941. He didn’t, and why? Because he was the enemy of the USA. We need to understand that THAT IS the position of the world- the entire world toward Jesus Christ. It (nations down to neighbors) is at enmity with Christ, just as YOU were before you believed on Christ.

The world is His enemy— and Christianity is not a culture.

A culture is an environment that is conducive to improve, correct or grow. A culture is a set of tastes or appreciations that people generally agree on. (Is Jesus Christ an opinion to generally agree on?) Modern culture are the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Those are NOT conducive to the Bible being broadcast or accepted. Because“the field is the world.”(Matt. 13:38) We cannot change the field without tilling, weeding, and planting new Seed.

“The seed is the word of God.” (Luke 8:11) Christianity is not a culture prepping this world for health, wealth, and prosperity. Christianity is the preaching of the Gospel into the world. The culture is the condition of the world where the Word is preached.

  • A seed is not part of the soil it goes into. Neither is the Gospel a part or result of this world.
  • A seed thrives when the soil is disturbed. The Gospel enters where there is brokenness, not “togetherness.”
  • A seed is sown on purpose. The Gospel (Christianity) is not a feeling or a movement. It is the presentation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Even the BEST prepped soil will house weeds without something worthwhile being planted from the outside.

Unreasonable Expectation

Christianity is on the decline. Despite the roller coaster dramas on a national scale, nothing that has happened in the last decade has changed the Message. Yes, our society has changed, but that is not the cause of a decline in Christianity. It is the RESULT. The world was always wicked. The Message is always appropriate and needful.

Who is responsible for Christianity rising or declining? Let me ask in a different way: Look around– who has heard the Gospel from you this year? Will you make a list of those names, and pray over it with me today?

If you have no names, perhaps it’s time we take to these un-cultured streets and just tell someone.

“Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:” Proverb 1:20
